Date night? Fancy dinner. Break up? Fancy dinner. Celebration? Fancy dinner. Whatever the occasion, a night out with a slap-up meal is always on the cards. The evening may end up with you downing shots and crying in street, but start off with an amazing restaurant that shows off the best fine dining in Liverpool. We’ve put together a pick of the bunch that will have you made up, whatever destination you decide on.
You’re not quite joining any mile-high clubs here, but Panoramic 34 is one of the UK’s highest restaurants and gives you a gorgeous view over lovely Liverpool. (Some would say it’s panoramic……) Not content drawing you in with stunning sights though, this place does a fine line in amazing food. Try out the A la Carte, or push the boat out with their seven-course tasting menu, featuring dishes like pan-fried mullet and dark chocolate mousse. Afterwards, retire to the cocktail lounge and treat yourself to one of their famous martinis or a whimsically-named Flight of the Bumblebee.
This one might not be right in the centre of the city, but Verdant Allerton is definitely worth the trip south. Classically French, Verdant isn’t known for one of the best places for fine dining in Liverpool for nothing. Crisp white tablecloths and low lighting set the mood for slick food, with the A la Carte including favourites like scallops and pancetta with black pudding, and pan-fried duck leg. If you’re feeling fancy but your pocket isn’t, they also do a pre-theatre menu at just £19.95 for three courses between 5pm-7pm Sunday-Friday. Fantastique.
R Bar and Brasserie
Get your fanciest shoes out for this one, it’s proper classy! R Bar and Brasserie is attached to the Richmond Hotel in the centre of the city and sports some seriously fancy decor. For the serious meat-eaters among you, this place will be heaven; there’s a whole grill section featuring a selection of steaks and delicious sauces. Their truffle mashed potatoes are to die for, and you can even wash it all down with their signature cocktails, including the famous Espresso Martini.
The London Carriage Works
Making a night of it? Sitting right by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, The London Carriage works is the perfect accompaniment if you’re going to see a show, or catch some live music. Situated in the site of an old coach and carriage builders, it’s one of the best spots for some fine dining in Liverpool. Expect some seriously fancy food if you head here, with salt baking of celeriac, truffle veloutes, honey braising, and all the other fancy techniques you usually only drool over on Masterchef. One thing that really makes The London Carriage Works stand out is their cheese; they have a whole menu of the finest cheeses, from Snowdonia cheddar, to Kidderton Ash goat’s cheese. Is there a better way to round off a meal than with cheese?
This spot calls itself a gastro-pub which conjures up images of hearty portions, friendly staff, and cosy seats. All of which it does have, but as the line between gastro and fine dining blurs, this place fits into both categories. Case in point: they do a Sunday roast and a tasting menu. And it’s the tasting menu we’re recommending here. With “seven heavenly courses” there’s something for everyone on this menu that changes depending on the seasons. Pair it with some of their excellent wines, which the staff are really knowledgeable about, and you’re in for an evening to remember.
The Manor Restaurant
Located in the Wirral, this restaurant is not exactly in Liverpool, but we had to add it as it’s perfect for a bit of escapism. To enter, you stroll through some lovely gardens, perfect for an after dinner aperitif. (If it ever stops raining that is.) Once inside, it’s everything you’d expect a converted, 17th century manor to be. Shiny glasses sit atop crisp tablecloths, and a grand piano dominates the room, where they often have live jazz musicians performing. The food is pretty jazzy too; the menu featuring surprises like wine-poached salmon caprice, pot roast with Somerset cider, and wild boar parcels. There’s also a huge selection of veggie dishes, and an even better dessert menu for the sweet-toothed.
